    Hi;
This will depend upon the amplifier you are using. Some are set to
automatically reduce the output power of the radio so the linear isn't
overdriven.  Others just have a dial which changes the transmit output.  If
you are adjusting the alc manually you might just gradually increase the out
put power until you are close to the level that the amp is rated for. You
will need some way to know if the final output power is increasing or
decreasing.  If an amp is rated for 500 wats best to run it at 450 and there
will be fewer over drive issues.
