What you probably have on the surface is an anti-glare coating. This should
be similar to what is on the LCD screens. You might try lightly rubbing a
candle (wax) on the scratch. While this will not truly fix the problem, it
may make the scratch less prominent. This worked on my LCD screen.

I have a CRT monitor (not LCD) that got a scratch on the screen while in
storage. There seems to be a thin plastic coating on the glass and this is
