There was defense department contest in the desert for robot cars. The
driverless cars were to drive themselves across the desert mostly off the
highway. Nobody won the contest. One car went about 8 miles before getting
stuck in a ditch, and setting it's spinning wheels on fire . There was one
motorcycle, but it fell over right at the starting line.
Needless to say they have a long way to go before anyone wins the prize.
Robots are at the point in their development where PC's were in the
seventies.
