There are lots of potential bottlenecks between you and the page you want to
browse, so you may not see any appreciable difference in the speed that your
pages load. Speed increases are more easily seen in transfers of
multi-megabye files. You can use a site such as
www.dsrreports.com
and then go to "tests and tools" for a quick and dirty test. This site can
be used for testing any type of broadband connection. There are lots of
other test sites out there. You could also ftp a large file to or from your
ISP's servers and just look at the transfer rate. This will give you the
most accurate number, since the rest of the internet will not create a
bottleneck. Since you are using a cable modem, make sure it has been power
cycled since the upgrade, or you may find yourself stuck at the old speed.
ISP's may load configuration data into your cable modem at power-up.

Subject: Testing Connection Speed

Recently, my provider said they upgraded the speed of our cable internet
connection. However, as I browse the web, nothing seems to have changed.
Being relatively new to cable Internet, I am wondering ow I can check the
speed and make sure everything is in good working order. Thanks for any
advice.
