I cannot help you too much, but what application are you using to see what
applications are loaded at startup? If you're using MSConfig, I think
there are scripts for that program. You might try looking at
http://www.jfwlite.com. If that's the case, I don't know why they aren't
packaged with JFW.

I use Widnows 2000 and therefore dont' use MSConfig. I use something
similar, and it puts an icon next to the application name to indicate
whether it'll be loaded at startup or not. when I'm faced with this
situation, I make sure that all graphics are spoken using the Insert-V
key. I then figure out, usually with common sense, but sometimes I need
some sighted help, what the graphics mean, and I use the Insert-G key to
label the icons.

As far as figuring out what the F6, Insert-B and Insert-E keys do, I'd
suggest using the keyboard help. Press Insert-1 and then every time you
press a key, JFW will tell you what it does. Use the Insert-1 key to
toggle this help off.

I don't know what you get with the demo, but the actual product will come
with a tutorial on tape and a braille quick key reference, at least mine
did when I purchased it a few years ago. I suspect you won't find this
satisfactory for $800, and I don't know if I blame you or not. I also
don't know if you're thinking of switching to JFW from another screen
reader or not, but you could check GW Micro for Window-Eyes an alternative
to JFW. It might be more to your liking.

Subject: [VICUG-L] how to get jfw to speak the check boxes in startup?

Hi folks,
Well, I took the plunge, downloaded the jfw version 4.5 demo software.
However, when I go to see what's loaded in startup, jfw will not say if
the check boxes are checked or unchecked. If it won't do that, it's not
worth me spending $800 for a program. Someone tell me exactly how to get
this thing to speak check boxes, ok? Give me step by step instructions
with key commands please. I want to get this thing to do what it's
supposed to do. I've tried insert+f2 but that doesn't give me menus to
adjust what is spoken and when I want it spoken.
Also, what's the difference between the f6 command and the insert+b
command? They both read windows. Is f6 tfor reading the window I'm in or
is that insert+b?
Lots of questions, not many answers.
Harry
