The back is white, it is the lid that is transparent. The difference is
that you can see what you are scanning. The scanner automatically scans to
size, you put a 3X5 picture in, or a bar code, and it only scans that,
without having to preview it and then crop. It also comes with stitching
software for large scans that need to be put together. Here is a PCMAG
