Hi Paul,
Sounds like you need to disable the built-in modem in the systems BIOS settings. I do not know the Acer laptops so I can't tell you what key to press on power-up to enter the BIOS setup screens.
Possible keys (one at a time) are ESC, F1, F2, F10, DEL.
The manual should tell you.
Sometimes pressing keys at random during the POST will give you an error message that will prompt you to press a specific key to enter setup.
There will be a screen accociated with integrated components.
Not sure what it will be labeled with the Acer.
Good Luck

Hi All,

Recently added a USB modem to my Acer laptop because the built in modem
was fried in a storm. Now however even though I try and remove the old
modem from device manager in windows 98 upon reboot it keeps reinserting
the drivers. I have tried different things to remove it but nothing
works. The modem as far as I can tell doesn't come out as it seems to be
permanantly built in to the case of the laptop so can't remove it. Can
anyone tell me a solution for this as it seems to be causing problems
for the USB modem.

Many thanks,

Paul.
