You're only half right.

Overeating processed carbohydrates will make you fat.
Overeating fat and protein will make you fat.
Eating limited amounts of processed carbohydrates will make you thin.
Eating limited amounts of fat and protein will make you thin.

The advantages of the Paleodiet are:

- it's easier to stick with a low-calorie fat-and-protein diet than a
  low-calorie carbohydrate diet, thus better long-term success; and

- it also eliminates a whole lot of additives, toxins and things we're
  not adapted to eat, thus increasing health in general.
