Chickens will eat insects, worms and small lizards given the chance... it's their natural diet... they practice cannibalism too... they ARE scavengers just like pigs and wild boars... I've seen some producers of organic free range eggs declare on the packet - 'eggs from vegetarian chickens'..! always makes me laugh... 

BTW, the biblical dietary guidelines re winged creatures prohibit eating birds of prey and carrion eaters... no other restrictions really... if you follow those guidelines you should be able to eat giraffes too [ruminants with split hooves] :-)
