The KMC spokesperson Pa Kalifa Sanyang confirmed Mr Tamba’s resignation saying he had formally written to the council informing them about his decision to resign. “Indeed Michael has written to us to say he has resigned on the basis that he is to pursue further education in the United Kingdom and would not be available for the next few years,” he said. Mr Sanyang further said the department of state for Local Government and Lands and the Independent Electoral Commission have been sent copies of Mr Tamba’s resignation letter. He also said the council will in due course formally write to the IEC to inform them about the vacancy so that the Commission can organise and conduct a by-election. A by-election was earlier this year conducted in Bakau where the opposition won. © Copyright 2003 by Observer Company _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
