Joe,
As of now I am writing as a concerned fellow-traveller. The dramaturgy here,
however high the voltage, is not that of war and will not be one. When the
rest of us have taken leave of the list for various reasons, it is Sister
Jabou, El Hajj Tapha, Conteh, and yourself among others who have been
tirelessly carrying on the mantel of consistent opposition. And I find all
this sad episode deeply troubling as I just happen to have first listened to
a recording of the Tam-Tam call-in radio programme on a CD El Hajj sent me.
Listening to all those voices of protest has subjectively brought us all
closer. We must thuerefore be losing sight of something when discourse
degenerates to the level it now has, and especially so because having been
generated by an issue that has been a bane of post independence Africa's
search for identity.
This is not a court of law and there will be no arbitration here. So the
call for proof here and there will remain just a call. I beg of all of you
to refocus on the real issues ravaging the psyche of Gambians and break new
grounds on the ways forward. You are all going to march on the 9th, are you
not?!
Good night,
Momodou S Sidibeh
