You can encourage him and support him which you have stated that you did but
why does he see himself as half a man? He should accept his disability and
accept the person he is. He may need some professional help doing this because he
may have been treated in a demeaning and degrading way by others and maybe by
other woman. If this is the problem he must get help because he may think
sooner or later you will turn on him. All of us are afraid at times to take
chances and if the person is mistreated and has a low self esteem it could take
them a long time to trust people.

I applaud your efforts in trying to help him and I hope he realizes who he is
and the wonderful person you are.
