HI,
The cheapest solution is a new floppy drive for around $10 or a used one
for around $3
External solutions will be a lot more money. You have to pay for the
external connections that make it work.
By the phase "hard drive" I think you mean the operating system you are
using.
Some Questions:
Did you check your BIOS and make sure the floppy was enabled?
Do you see the floppy as a recognized device on system boot up, the
black screen
before windows starts. Does it show up in the windows device manager.
Is there a yellow ! Or red X on the device?
Thanks and have a Great Day!

Hi everyone,
I have a Pentium II, running Windows 98. It has a CD player, and a 3.5"
floppy . More and more, the floppy drive is not recognized by the hard
drive. When I insert a disk nothing happens, and "My Computer" shows no
floppy drive. I have taken it apart and checked all the cables etc, and
everything looks fine to my untrained eye. Several reboots will
sometimes get the hard drive to recognize the floppy. I am certain that
one day soon it will be completely dead. I will be replacing my system
in approximately 6 months. In the meantime, is there an external CD
read/write or floppy disk that I can cheaply purchase and plug in, or
other cheap temporary bandage solution? I am a complete novice. Please
keep any advice you can afford me in simple terms.
