I don't think you need to totally avoid fruit, but you should be careful
to eat only a limited amount, and no juice (too concentrated in sugars).
A serving of fruit a day, eaten with a meal or late in the day, shouldn't
hurt anything. Dried fruit, being so concentrated, should be eaten in
small quantities, as Ray Audette said, quantities similar to what you
would eat if it were fresh fruit.
Your goal is to keep your insulin nice and low, so: small meals, not
much fruit. This prevents insulin resistance, which leads to Type 2
diabetes.
I've got a lot of diabetes in my family on my father's side, and have
had hypoglycemia most of my life, so I try to be careful about limiting
carbs particularly fruit and sugar. So far, so good.
