Carob is actually a legume, so: no. However, since it doesn't contain any caffeine or similar, it seems to be used by some on this list as a semi-paleo ersatz-chocolate. I like carob a lot, but to me it tastes nothing like chocolate. So, I continue to eat my dark chocolate and occasionally some carob sweets and don't care that it's not paleo!
