Here's a report on a call I made to the Near East food company, makers of packaged Middle Eastern foods like rice and beans, hummus, etc. The staff person I spoke with said that not only is there likely to be cross-contamination on their processing line between Near East's wheat-based products and those made without wheat, but that the flavorings, too, may possibly contain gluten. Sadly, she recommends that people on gluten free diets avoid their products.
