Sorry to post twice, but I neglected to add to my first post that it does
sound like you're reaching the limit of your power supply. (You don't say what
it's rated at)
Here's a simple formula chart that I found in the April 2003 issue of PCWorld
that might help:

CPU Wattage Range
       Celeron 15-20
       Pentium II, III 20-30
       Pentium 4 40-60
       AMD Athlon 40-50
Motherboard 20-30
128MB of RAM 10-15
IDE hard drive 5-15
SCSI hard drive 20-25
Floppy drive 5
Optical drive 15-25
Zip drive 10
Graphics card
       2D 5-10
3D with 16MB VRAM 20-30
Sound card 7
Additional PCI card 5

Multiply calculated wattage by 1.3 to add a safety factor. I know that this
is a "general" usage chart, but it's a starting point in configuring supply
amounts for your UPS. Hope this helps.
