you might find some inspiration here - 'Roman Cookbook' - http://www.dl.ket.org/latin3/mores/food/index.html
they're all from ancient Rome therefore no tomatoes, chillies, peppers or potatoes... sure there are grain and dairy recipes but just ignore them.
