it was .net that you installed and as far as I know, it is not a critical
update. There is a fix for this but even uninstalling .net won't do it.
I'll have to dig it up if someone doesn't post it.

Something similar happened to me after I did a critical update for Windows.
I don't have jaws come up automatically so someone had to read to jme that i
needed to click on my user name. after that, I discovered that my welcome
screen had been turned on, so I unchecked it. even so, i still have to
press Enter now to complete my windows startup--but at least i don't have to
find anything to click on.
