Hello All,I had many requests for whatever info I received on portable
audible GPS units. Below is the info received, Thanks to several members on
this list
Frank
Hello Frank,
I came across your request for information concerning a portable audible GPS
unit
for one of your clients.
I have been using the BrailleNoteGPS system for about a year and a half. I
was one
of the alpha and beta testers for version 2, the most current version.
This system consists of a BrailleNote or Voicenote, a GPS receiver, and some
GPS
software. The GPS receiver clips to the shoulder strap to make a portable
unit one
can easily use while walking. The receiver can also be used quite
effectively in
a vehicle.
The software has street maps and route planning capabilities. While I'm
walking or
riding in a car or bus, I can find out what street I'm on and what my
nearest intersection
is. I can also find out what direction I'm heading, what city, state and
zipcode
I'm in, how fast I'm moving and how far I've gone. I can also learn what
street address
I'm near.
The software comes with commercial points of interest (restaurants, hotels,
museums,
parks, etc. The system "looks around " every 12 seconds and automatically
tells me
if I'm near a given point of interest. I can add my own user points of
interest as
I see fit.
The software will create a route from my current GPS position to any given
address
or point of interest. I can also put myself in virtual mode at some address
or point
of interest anywhere in the country and explore the area, checking out
nearby points
of interest, and creating routes.
After a route has been created, the system will tell me which way to walk,
when I
have arrived at any given turning point or intersection, and which way to
turn. When
I come to my final destination, the system tells me I have arrived, and if
I'm going
in the wrong direction, it becomes apparent quickly because my destination
is reported
to be getting farther and farther away from me.
I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about this device, and
I would
be happy to supply this system to your client, since De Witt & Associates is
a PulseData
distributor.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Rick Fox
