Someone asked about using a reverse approach in pine to filter out spam.
Yes, and it works very well. The filter compares the incoming mail to the
address book and if it is not there it can either be deleted or moved to a
seperate folder for later appraisal. As for mailing lists where the
address from which it is sent is different then that to which it is sent,
the easiest way is to put the from field address in the address book. The
basic logic of this approach, called a white list, is that almost all email
you send and that from which you expect/want responces is already in the
address book or can easily be added for filtering purposes. Other more
specific functions can be added to the filter rules to take care of special
cases that aren't covered in the above approach. If there is interest, I
can post the steps to set up this filter in pine.
