It sounds like there's a good chance that your hard drive died, but I would
download the diagnostic utilities from the drive's manufacturer. I would
run these tests on the drive to see what they turn up. If the drive is
toast and it is still covered by warranty, you can use the diagnostic code
from the tests to apply for a return of the drive for a replacment.
