You may have figured this out for yourself by now. If not, read on:



Well you have gotten yourself into document map mode. You got yourself into
this mess by tapping the alt, v, and d keys. To get yourself out of this
mess just tap the alt, v, and d keys again.



Please everyone; lets practice safe computing so this v d thing wont spread.
