Cody,
the most blind friendly audio player that blind people use is the Winamp MP3
player. It is available free at:
http://www.winamp.com
In fact, recent versions of JAWS come with a set of scripts that enhances the
functionality of winamp considerably. Functions have been added with these
scripts to do things not available to sighted users of the program. To
learn more about Winamp and use by the blind, visit the Winamp For the Blind
resource at:
http://www.shannon.reece.net/Winamp4TheBlind.html
One of the features of winamp is the Winamp library. The library lists
online audio streams configured with Shoutcast servers. There are more than
6,000 radio stations listed in more than 1,000 categories. the stations
include highly specialized stations that play only music from the Grateful
Dead or Dave Matthews to online streams of mainstream radio, such as the
streams for WNYC in New York and KCRW in the Los Angeles area.
Another source in addition to bill Spark's excellent website mentioned
earlier is Live365, which can be reached at:
http://www.live365.com
Free registration is necessary to listen to audio streams. the service can
be configured to play audio only with the Winamp player rather than using
the default Live365 player, which is much less easy to use than winamp.
there is a selection of several thousand stations here, mostly Internet
audio streams, although Live365 does carry a relay broadcast of WBAI in New
York.
together, Real Player, bill Spark's website, winamp, the Winamp library, and
Live365 should meet all or nearly all of your audio access needs.
