just finished rereading "Indian Summer"- a true account of a white boy who
lived with native california people for most of his childhood. (Mayfield-
great book)
These people ate wild oats, and acorns, pine nuts, and other grass seeds-
along with game and berries and stuff-
there is alot of processing involved in making acorns edible- you can't just
"get them with a sharp stick" - comments?
wild oats- what are they? and grass seeds? these things sound very much
like- gasp..GRAINS.
ALso- I recently got a book on edible plants in CA - and alot of them
require some sort of processing in order to eat them, I was wanting to pick
and eat. like Amaranth- on the side of the road- it is a grain- yeah? I
used to eat alot of it in my macrobiotic days.
so i dont know what I am saying- it seems people used quite a bit of native
grains and alot of processing, am I wrong?
