JAMMEH AND HIS BLUFF STATEMENT ON THE
PENDING
2006 ELECTIONS.
While Gambians are mourning Deyda Hydara, dictator Yahya
Jammeh is talking about elections. What a senseless
leader. Considering the gravity of the crime
committed against the state, we expect any responsible
leader to observer 40 days mourning period to pay
respect to the murdered journalist. But Jammeh seems
not to care much about the death of Deyda. If he
does, he wouldn't be talking about elections at
this period.
It's not time to talk about elections. It's time
for his regime to chart way forward in bringing
Deyda's murderers to book. It's time to bring
the arsonists of the Independent newspaper to
justice. It's time to bring the arsonists of
Radio One FM to book. It's time to bring the
killers of former finance minister Koro Ceesay to
book. It's time to scrap all draconian laws from our
constitution.
Jammeh's bluff statement on the pending 2006 polls goes
to show that he is ready to steal the elections.
He had the audacity to say that he is going to
sweep the polls. Jammeh says he considering not to
embark on elections campaign come 2006? Jammeh seems to
be over optimistic of sweeping the polls? Is he
planning to bring his Casamance voters, as he did in
previous elections? Is he planning to use his
security forces to rig the elections? I hate to
comment further on this issue, as i am mourning my late
colleague Deyda Hydara.
His interview with GRTS'S Kebba Dibba was scanty. Jammeh
woefully failed to address the questions of the day.
Instead, he tried to intimidate Gambians who have
info about Deyda's death. Gambians want to know who
killed Deyda. Gambians want to know when will the
perpetrators be apprehended and brought to book.
Mr.President, your statement on moves to sue people
who point accusing fingers against your undemocratic
government, will not in anyway help in bringing Deyda's
murderers to justice. It will only further encourage
the perpetrators to commit similar acts. Your this
irresponsible statement compelled me and other Gambians to
ask whether you are really serious in trailing Deyda's
killers? As long as you are not open about Deyda's
murder, people will continue to point accusing fingers
against your administration. If your hands are
clean, as you claimed, why not set up an independent
commission of enquiry to probe this dastardly act? It
happens in other countries, why not The Gambia?
All these crimes committed under your administration cannot
go investigated. We have seen the atrocities committed
under former Ghanaian president Jerry Rawlings era being
investigated. You remember the South African Truth Commission?
Mr.President act now to avoid the inevitable day.
There is no way that you can escape these atrocities
attributed to you and your APRC government. There is
nothing more honourable to admit responsibility for any wrong
doing attributed to your government. The rest will be
decided by those wronged. I Have no intention to indict
you and your government. I 'm just speaking my mind.
Let justice guide our actions.
