My husband and I recently learned that our Celiac three-year-old son also has
an underdeveloped pituatary gland. He will begin growth hormone treatment
in the very near future.
We saw wonderful changes in our son after going on the gluten-free diet -
his lovely personality came through (he cried constantly before), he gained
lots of weight, and he began to take off developmentally (he hadn't walked
until he was 18 months). But he hardly gained any height. And there were
other medical issues that were not explained by the Celiac disease. So we
kept pushing the doctors and finally found out that he has a growth hormone
deficiency.
I share this because if any of you parents are not satisfied with your
doctor's diagnosis, I encourage you to keep searching and pushing your
doctor. I would have never thought that my child could have 2 unrelated
diseases that cause short stature. And the doctors would not have found
either if my husband and I had not been persistant.
