1) I had to explain to my new GP exactly CP is and why I'm not doing as well
as CP adults are theoretically supposed to. But once I brought up PPS and
the role of fatigue and the similairty in growing older with CP, she "got
it." I just wish doctors were more well-informed, that's all.
2) Sad to say, Terri Shiavo's case is not unique and such cases will be
fought over in our judicial system as long as there is ambiguity over wishes
regarding end-of-life issues and conflct within families. If Terri's parents
hadn't chosen to go public with it, it'd have stayed a private family matter
without all this dragging the courts into it. None of this would have been
possible thirty years ago, before modern medicine raised our expecations and
prolonged lives with the help of machinery, etc.
3) Personally speaking, I resent the efforts of disability rights groups such
as "Not Dead Yet" interferring with my right to die as I wish. Nor do I want
the U.S. Government telling my family how to decide. This is interferrence
that is intrusive and just plain not right. Now I'm not talking about
suicide per se but about terminal illness or vegetative states. Itr's my
life and I reserve the right to do as I wish.
Frankly, I think it's very interesting that since President Bush signed that
emergency bill last week, his approval ratings have gone down, particularly
amongst conservatives. I also find it ironical that I'm siding with the
majority in this, when I'm usually the odd person out.
