I think ted's info is valuable to know, but it doesn't apply for me.  I
haven't used system restore on this computer and my Norton software has
never stopped working.  in my case, as i have now discovered, i get a log on
dialog before I can finish rebooting.  I know that this started
happening--and the welcome screen got checked as well--after i did an update
in windows xP which was a security fix.  I'll probably just leave it alone.
