When your system begins to boot watch for the key to press to get into your BIOS. I would suspect that the BIOS has been set to put the system in standby after a certain passage of time with no activity. Usually you would find this setting in power management settings.
>I have an IBM Aptiva model 2140 L31. It came with Windows 95 and I upgraded it to Windows 98 SE. When running a long time with no mouse activity, a banner comes up saying "please wait while your computer prepares for standby" The banner stays, the program keeps running. Eventually, it freezes. There was nothing in the reference guide about standby but I know it came with other Aptivas. I suspect that some standby software is running but some software or hardware is not there. Standby does not appear in settings / control panel / power management. How can I stop it from calling on standby?
