I agree with Jean-Claude on this one. Additionally, there is the issue of=
irradiating foods. In the =
book Fast Food Nation, the author makes a pretty compelling case that the=
only
reason for =
creating the technology to irradiate foods and thereby make them safe for=
human consumption, =
is because the speeds at which the cattle are slaughtered in the meatpack=
ing
plants is so fast =
that the employees can rarely disembowel the animals properly before havi=
ng to
move on to the =
next animal.
The result is that contaminated fecal matter infects that animal and ever=
y
other animal that =
goes through that station afterwards. Irradiation appears to be a step th=
at
the meat packers =
want to add so that they can justify doing an even sloppier job on the ki=
lling
floor than they =
already do with meat that isn't healthy to begin with.
Not good for the animals. Not good for the workers and DEFINITELY not goo=
d for
consumers.
