Ned and I went to our endo today, and I have to admit that it wasn't an
entirely unpleasant experience. First of all, I have to hand it to Ned for
surviving his ten-day trip to Arizona and Utah, where I literally tried to
burn the life out of him by holding my neck up and stretching it out to the
sun, hoping that the scorching heat of Phoenix would do him in. No such
luck, for he is alive and well, and back on Long Island.
Anyway, I informed my endo that I wasn't interested in going back on
Synthroid, and that I had been taking a homeopathic substance made from
dessicated sheep thyroid. He smiled and said that that had been used widely
around the turn of the century. Then he asked me how I felt, and after
taking blood samples, etc., he said he would gladly monitor me on the
Thyroidinum but would not recommend giving me Armour. He explained that
since I have already developed osteoporosis, although I haven't had any
fractures yet despite skiing, etc., that it wasn't for me. Apparently, a T3
drug can actually stimulate osteoporosis in people who are already prone to
it. He claimed that when people are on Armour, and do self-regulating ,
that they kind of get accustomed to being on a mild high. The high makes
you feel so good that you become oblivious to what is actually happening
inside you, including the metabolic changes that can aggravate other
medical problems. So, nix on Armour, as I suspected.
I would appreciate hearing any comments on this. I plan to bring them to
him at my next appointment.
