I was finally diagnosed with Hashimotos (& something else - that they
can't figure out yet) last year. I've been sick for 5 years now. I was
on Synthroid (T4) & Cytimel (T3). And I was still sooo tired & depressed
& gaining weight but too tired to eat. Someone gave me this book on
nutritional/herb ways to deal with illness. IT's a book that works with
western medicine. Anyway under hypothyroid there was this little warning
about taking synthetic thyroid & loss of bone mass. I brought it up to my
NEW doc. She looked at my recent blood work & said "Well if your levels
are too high then yess you should worry. YES YOU SHOULD WORRY I"m taking
your levels down NOW!!".
I really didn't want her to drop my levels. We compromised. SHe gave me
lower levels of natural thyroid (you have to have a script for this). THis
type of thyroid has both T4 & T3 (which I was already taking). I'd just
started taking dhea - about 2 weeks before I saw her & I was feeling
dramatically better she let me stay on the dhea. She's not too happy about
me being a test-subject but I do feel better on it.
When she lowered my levels of thyroid I immediately broke out in a rash &
suffered a serious bout of depression. I could go on just eating a small
bowl of ceral & a powerbar a day, day after day. With in 10 days my body had
adjusted to the new level.
I guess once I find out what the something else is I have I might be able
to get normal/well again!! :)
