Yes, you are quite right.  Iron pills taken at the exact same time as thyroid hormone can bind the hormone and interfere with hormone absorption into your bloodstream.  You should try to separate the pills in time, say taking the iron a few hours after the thyroid hormone.  (reference: Annals of Internal Medicine, 1992 vol 117, page 1010-1013).
