What does the term bioequivalence mean? My understanding has always been
that even though the active ingredients may be the same between name
brand drugs and generic drugs, that the 'fillers' used and the processed
used to make the pills can cause differences in the way the drugs dissolve
or the way the drugs are absorbed. I'm very anxious to learn more about this
NBC article on Synthyroid. I had taken it for years with good results, then
a few years ago my doctor switched me to Levoxyl. I was feeling less than
good and he said that the company that made Synthyroid had been bought out
by another company. Even though they claimed they made no changes, he felt
that too many patients were experiencing differences in their reactions to
their usual dose. In my case, we have been adjusting the dose of Levoxyl for
years and can't seem to get it right. When I feel the dose is such that I
feel good, he says that blood work indicates that I need less. Then I go
on less and feel terrible. A vicious cycle that I'm getting tired of.
Any information greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Nancy
