This whole thyroid problem is new to me. Last summer my gp noticed what he
thought to be an "enlargement" of my thyroid- 99.5% chance it's benign.
The left lobe and isthmus was removed in November and a .9 cm cancer was
found. After an ultrasound in Dec. and a long discussion with my surgeon,
it was decided to take the right side out since the left lobe contained one
large node and one small cancer, but the other side had two larger nodes.
We did this in Dec. After assuring me that the second path report was OK,
but they were sending it on to another lab- just in case. Now it looks like
it may not be ok, so there is consideration of radiation. I've been on
cytomel 0.025 mg since the Dec. 16 surgery. My hair is falling out, I've
put on 10 lbs in 2 weeks and I'm so tired there are not words to explain-

My question is - what do I expect now? Does this ever get better? What
happens with radiation. I've read that some dr's do radiation after any
surgery that shows cancer regardless of size. My doctor I'm going to
seems to think it has to be over 1 cm. or I have to be over 50. (I'm 40).
What are the side effects I can expect is we do the radiation?
