<there is no such thing as resistance to thyroid hormone>
<dr.g.>
To add to what Carol, Ricci and others wrote, if you go to the NIH
National Library of Medicine's search service to access the 9 million
citations in the MEDLINE database of medical research, located at:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/
and type in "thyroid hormone resistance" as the search subject, there
are 179 different references to legitimate scientific research studies
that investigate various aspects of resistance to thyroid hormone,
published in highly respected medical journals, including the journal
"Thyroid," the "Journal of Endocrinology," "The Journal of Developmental
and Behavioral Pediatrics" and dozens more.
From just this past May of 1997, there's an article in the Journal of
Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, titled "Resistance to thyroid
hormone caused by two mutant thyroid hormone receptors.."
And from this past April of 1997,
Journal: Molecular Endocrinology 1997 Apr;11(4):470-480
Article Title: "Thyroid hormone resistance syndrome manifests as an
aberrant interaction between mutant T3 receptors and transcriptional
corepressors."
Authors: Yoh SM, Chatterjee VK, Privalsky ML
Affiliation: Division of Biological Sciences, University of California
at Davis, 95616, USA.
A quote from the research citation:
"The syndrome of Resistance to Thyroid Hormone (RTH) is a human genetic
disease characterized by an impaired physiological response to thyroid
hormone."
