Wait, there's been a mixup. The 15 carbs was from something
different, or at least an individual modification of the "zone".
Here's how you figure out how much to eat on the zone:
1) By calculating your fat percentage and lean body mass, you figure
from the book how many "blocks" to start with. A "block" is 3 fat
grams, 7 protein grams, and 9 carbo grams, which is balanced. The
block thing is a Sears invention, but it does become easy to think in
these terms, so I use it as a tool.
2) Divide those blocks over at least 5 meals per day. For example,
if you are to eat 11 blocks per day, you might eat a 3 block
breakfast, 3 block lunch, 1 block snack, 3 block dinner, 1 block
snack. But you can really divide it up any way you want as long as
you don't go too long between meals.
3) Now the fun begins - customizing the diet for yourself according
to how long it takes you to get hungry, how alert you are, etc. You
might be adding or subtracting carbos, protein, or fat.
15 grams of carbo is slightly less than 2 blocks of carbs, so this
would be a small meal or snack, together with the accompanying fats
and protein. Some people, like hypoglycemic folks, can't eat too
much at once without sending their insulin levels soaring. They
might have to limit the amount of food or carbos at any one time for
this reason. But don't confuse that with the zone stuff.
