This is debatable because people who have had an operation which
has made them hypothyroid may not be in the same position as people
who have had RAI. Like wise these people may not be in the same position
as people who have gone hypo slowly without help, and there again they
may not be in the same position as those who were born without a
thyroid. I think in many years to come people will look back at thyroid
treatment, see this, and laugh at the choice of treatment that we have
now. They may even regard RAI as stupid as we view foot X-rays for
measuring feet now. Nearly ALL of medicine is a fashion thing, which is
a form of confomity. There is little anyone can do about it except keep
asking questions about the solutions we have now. If enough people
cause a disturbance then the medical profession have to act to relieve
the discomfort they feel about the situation (human nature that).
