The needle biopsy I had was back in 1979, so it's possible that
procedures have changed a bit. However, mine was done with me
sitting up in a chair and an initial small-needle, small-dose
local anesthetic was administered. After a minute or so they
approached me with what seemed to be a rather large bore needle
and I could feel myself tense up. As it was, the needle insertion
and extraction was not very painful at all. They asked me how I
felt and if I was dizzy or anything, but I said "No" and that
I felt "OK". Still, I must have been must have been very
anxious because when I finally did stand up, I almost passed out
anyway. They sat me back down for a couple of more minutes and
gave me a glass of orange juice after which everything was fine.
I had no noticable after-effects of any sort. So ... I guess I
can say that for me that my anxiety was higher than I thought or
felt and that it was worse than the procedure itself. Good luck
with yours!
