My feeling on this matter is that for some people with Hashimoto's, the antibodies are interfering with the
bioavailability of thyroid hormone on the cellular level. They may also be interfering with the enzymes which
change T4 into T3.
Levoxyl and Syntroid are only T4 because your body should be able to convert the T4 into T3. Its the T3 that
helps you metabolize properly and lose weight.
T3 and T4 counts are not helpful because even though your body may be producing lots, the antibodies are
blocking the use by the body. I think of a shipwreck survivor in a life raft with no drinking water surrounded by
more water than he needs but unable to drink any of it.
You could ask your doctor for some Cytomel (T3) .. a little goes a long way. I wouldn't tell him my theory
because they don't like us having theories but just broach it as a possibility. Could we try ...?
Anyway, this is my theory...Rose
