Hashimoto's is actually an immune disorder. Your immune system targets your thyroid and sends out
white blood cells to destroy it. Eventually your thyroid gives up and you become hypothyroid.
I believe that in some people in the early stages, the white blood cells block the thyroid hormones from
being used by the body so that a person would (as I do) have a normal T3,T4 and TSH but suffer the
symptoms of hypothyroidism. After reading Dr. Vliet's book, I begged my endocrinologist do an
antibody test. He could not believe the result that my count is four times normal and I am still fighting
to get treatment because the T3,T4 and TSH show normal.
One immune disorder can mean others are more likely. The frequency of Diabetes, Arthritis and
fibromyalgia are probably higher in Hashi people. Also, allergies and infections of various kinds are
more likely when your immune system is goofy.
