Well, I had my doctor's visit today and while he did have the blood drawn
and ordered the tests for hypothyroid, he wasn't very reassuring. He
said to me don't be surprised if it isn't your thyroid and we may just
tell you to improve your diet and exercise more to stop the weight gain.
I was really offended. I had already explained to him that I was
exercising 3-5 times a week on the treadmill for AT LEAST 45 minutes
sometimes as much as an hour and a half and have been on a prepregnancy
diet (no caffeine, no refined products, no alcohol. . .), so please
explain to me a 20 pound weight gain in 5 months while dieting and
exercising. I've decided that if my bloodwork comes back low normal as
it usually does, I'm going to go to my friends doctor who has been
willing to address her symptoms and treat her based on how she feels,
body temperature. . . The doctor also didn't take the time to answer my
questions about my consistently low body temperature and blood pressure
(low enough to cause dizziness). I asked about a thyroid antibodies test
and he felt that that is only given if you suspect Graves (which my
sister has). Needless to say I was very dissappointed. This was a
doctor who I really felt would listen and had spent time when I had gone
to see him for other things, but I guess when it comes to weight gain the
belief is that all I'm doing is sitting around eating. Well, I guess
that I will wait until Tuesday and see what the bloodwork says. They are
doing a T3, T4, and TSH. They had to stick me three times and barely got
enough blood because of my tough skin and rolling veins. Sorry about the
long message, but I needed to vent a little. Thanks, Sallette
