It seems everything about LCD/TFT monitors is based on hearsay and legends,
without any concrete answers.

For example: we're pretty sure by now that it's not a good idea to turn the
old-style monitors on and off, because it will wear out the CRT. No problem.

However, there seems to be no definitive answer about LCD/TFT screens. On
the one hand, the manual says that the screen technology has a limited life.
On the other hand, nothing I've seen on the Internet or been able to google
seems to indicate anything about the effects of turning off the LCD screen
when it is not in use for a brief period of time.

Has anybody been able to locate any definitive information on the subject?
