Hi Kathy Jo,

Do your parents give you an allowance? If so this is a good place to =
start learning about money and budgeting. Cooking is very easy - =
especially with all the ready made stuff today. If you can read you can =
put together a meal. Budgeting is the most thing - becasue if you can't =
budget you can really get yourself on big trouble. Budgeting gets the =
bills paid, and helps you figure out what kind of groceries you can get. =
Sometimes when times are bad you may just have soup and toast to make =
the parts work right.=20

Using Amber as an example: =20
I give Amber $50 dollars a month for an allowance, and she is =
reponsible for some house work and pet care. I am told by some people I =
am a very bad mother becasue I don't make her have a part -time job, and =
pay for things but I figure she is about to be 17 - Wednesday is her =
birthday. I have to admit - I think kids primary job is getting an =
education, and I don't see that having a part-time job actually works =
for kids across the board. Amber already comes home exhausted and needs =
nap before she can do homework - I can't see wedging in job and wiping =
her out more, as responsible parenting or helping her get a good =
education. She happy to help with house, and do laundry, sweep, vacuum, =
dust, pick-up etc. Next year she will be away at college - hopefully , =
and I will up her allowance and she will have to budget to get the =
extra's I provide now. I am hoping to start - the budget process in =
January by asking her father to up her allowance (my child support) $25 =
dollars and having her start buying her own face wash and concealors and =
stuff - with that extra money.=20

When she gets older and has a job - she will be responsible to pay for =
her car insurance, and gas, and contribute to the household finances - =
to defray food and uiltity costs. I think this will be a good start =
before she gets out on her own.=20
