It is possible, I suppose, but whilst know software, I'm not an hardware
person.  Only way to test is run a diagnostics and see if the modem and
the phone line are communicating.

Alas, I haven't done a diagnostic on a modem in over 2 years and I'm
running my box on Linux at the present so I can't go into Windows and
walk through the steps.  However this is what I remember; maybe it'll
point Bobby in the right direction.

-- Go into Control Panel (it's in the Startup Menu)
-- There will be one or both of the following: Modems and/or Internet
Connection
-- Click on whichever one is there and go through the steps to test your
connection (i.e., modem),  That should tell you if it's working or not.

Kat (who remembers the bad old days when sending init strings to modems
were big deals and she had to set 'em up all the time)
