I have a new computer my son put together for me, as a Christmas gift, using XP. A couple of months ago, when I would shut down and restart or just plain turn it on, it would boot to the icons, but not quite fully, then freeze and shut down , then start all over again. It will do this several times before finally booting all the way and not freezing. I would get the usual message to send or not send to MS. I did click on send the first time, got the message back that some driver was needed - I downloaded that and still I get the same thing, so I leave the computer on most of the time now.
Any ideas what is causing it to freeze at boot up like that? Initially, I had downloaded a spybot program, so I figured that was the problem. I uninstalled that and still the problem persists. Maybe the spybot software started it: I don't know. It works fine when left on. I just walk away when I am waiting for it to boot up until it finally goes all the way. It's annoying though. I would like to figure this out.
In God's love
