I know I didn't even mean the AA/ NA deal. I would rather have people
looking for support for each other. Many of my friends who were addicts
(not hard to find in the military) seemed to have drifted into the very
fringe of christianity. One friend became a preacher for a charismatic
church another moved to Western Virginia hills, home schools her kids to
keep them away from the evil influences of the modern world, I occasionally
get 2 page letters at christmas time spouting religious doctrine. It seems
to me they substitute one high for another.

AA becomes a crutch for many people. They cling to its doctrines in the same
way that religious people
cling to their doctrines.
I think this is what trisha means.
