Mine is s 3.5 drive 4500 connected to a ThinkPad. I've not done any
benchmark tests but I tried a few read and writes when I first got
mine. For a directory with 40 meg it took less than 8 seconds and a
directory with 253 meg, it took 1 minute 27 seconds for both reading
and writing back to my ThinkPad hard drive. It takes a little over 30
minutes to make a full backup copy (uncompressed) of my 6 gigs of
data.

I have not run any performance tests on my USB since it is only a 4500
RPM 2.5inch drive. It would be very interesting to see what the actual
performance of such devices is compared to IDE and SCSI devices. If
you get a chance, please run some comparison tests and share them with
us. Anyone else run tests on USB drives?
