Next Proteins (A.K.A. Designer Whey) has replaced it's former GF nutrition
bar product line with a gamut of new offerings, U-TURN, DETOUR, ONW-WAY,
and ALMOND JOY RIDE. Regrettably, all of the new bars contain a base
caramel that can contain a gluten base (wheat). Thus the company has
stated that they can no longer consider any of their nutrition bars to be
GF. This information was secured directly from Next Proteins Consumer
Relations department (10/03/03 - Janet Bryant). Why a multi-million
dollar company, who is well aware of the dietary restrictions of the
Celiac community, would not formulate a caramel base free of gluten is
beyond me. Why develop a new product that elininates about 3 million
potential U.S. customers seems to make no business sense. A side note.
All Premier 8 protein bars are still GF as well as all Think low-carb
protein bars (except for French Toast, and Berry flavors). Have a
terrific day.
